Biography
Greet Death, the Flint, Michigan outfit, fuses thick layers of warped shoegaze with brooding slowcore and post-rock atmospheres. Praise greeted the trio’s first album in 2017, after which they joined the Deathwish roster to deliver their commanding second LP, New Hell.
Logan Gaval (guitar, vocals), Sam Boyhtari (bass, vocals), and Jimmy Versluis (drums) assembled the group in 2016. They promptly aligned with Chicago-based Flesh and Bone Records, which issued their opening 7", "In Heaven"/"Your Lull," that May. Rich, sorrowful textures marked their work, summoning the mournful sweep of 1990s slowcore alongside incisive post-rock hues and an especially murky low end.
Dixieland, their first full-length—titled for a hometown flea market—arrived a year afterward, lifting the band onto a national stage and earning them a deal with heavy-music specialists Deathwish. The imprint released the widely acclaimed follow-up, New Hell, in late 2019.
