Greie Gut Fraktion unites East German-born poet/producer Antye Greie with West German experimental producer Gudrun Gut under the banner they label “post-kraut-dub-industrial-techno.” Greie, who records as AGF, previously formed one half of Laub and has collaborated with Ellen Allien, Craig Armstrong, and Vladislav Delay, among others. Gut, for her part, belonged to Mania D, Malaria!, Einstürzende Neubauten, and Matador before founding the Monika Enterprise label.

The partnership originated in 2008 when Greie asked Gut to join her on a BBC Late Junction commission. Drawn to the driving rhythms of construction zones, they captured hours of field recordings. During 2009 the pair assembled tracks from those recordings together with vocals, beats, and guitars, working separately in studios located in Finland and Berlin.

Live appearances followed in Copenhagen, Berlin, and London. Their debut release, the spring 2010 EP Wir bauen eine neue Stadt (“we’re building a new city”) on Monika, reinterpreted the 1981 Palais Schaumberg hit that once featured Gut’s sometime collaborator Thomas Fehlmann; Wolfgang Voigt and Alva Noto supplied additional remixes. The duo’s first album, Baustelle (“Construction Site”), appeared in summer 2010.
