Biography
The lineup of Hazen Street brought together Toby Morse of H20 and Freddy Cricien on vocals, Hoya from Madball on bass, guitarist David Kennedy, and drummer Mackie of Fun Lovin' Criminals. The project originated in an early songwriting partnership between Morse and Kennedy and took its name from the street address of the New York City facility where ex-Madball singer Cricien had served time; the resulting sound fused aggressive contemporary hardcore with metal, rap-rock, and pop textures. In 2003 Hazen Street joined the roster of DC Flag, the Epic-distributed imprint run by Benji and Joel Madden, and began tracking their debut album under producer Howard Benson. Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory added guitar to the sessions, yet prior commitments to NFG kept him from touring with the band. Their self-titled album appeared in July 2004.
