Biography
Puerto Rican/Jamaican-descendant singer Huey Dunbar entered tropical music at the urging of arranger/producer Sergio George, who approached him following a talent-contest appearance. Over the next two years the emerging vocalist refined his innate abilities while acquiring fluency in Spanish for both speech and song. He soon appeared as a backup vocalist for Yolandita Monge, contributed to India’s 1994 album Dicen Que Soy, and performed alongside Víctor Manuelle. In 1996 Huey Dunbar became a member of the tropical-club/dance act DLG (Dark Latin Groove), sharing lead duties with James de Jesús and Wilfredo Crispin, also known as Fragancia; the group reached the summit of the Latin charts with the song “No Morirá.” Following the release of Swing On and the Grammy-nominated Gotcha, he issued his debut solo album, Yo Si Me Enamoré.
