Eliot Pauline Sumner entered the world in northern Italy on July 30, 1990, and benefited from an elite musical upbringing under her father, Sting. Her childhood unfolded in a modest Wiltshire village in England, where she deliberately stayed clear of the spotlight surrounding his professional life. By her mid-teens she had begun writing reggae-flavored material of her own under the name “Coco” Sumner, uploading numerous tracks to her MySpace page. Multiple record companies responded to the songs, resulting in a multi-album contract with Island Records.

During sessions for her first album the 18-year-old musician formed a compact ensemble that featured keyboardist Emlyn Maillard and multi-instrumentalist Al Shux, the latter already known for producing Jay-Z’s chart-topping “Empire State of Mind” in 2009. I Blame Coco’s music drew equally from pop, ska, and electro-punk, and the project issued its initial singles in early 2010, one of them a duet with Swedish pop vocalist Robyn. The band’s debut album, The Constant, followed later the same year. After devoting the next couple of years to fresh material, Sumner declared in 2014 that future releases would appear under her own name. That August saw the arrival of the Information EP. Two tracks from the EP were later incorporated into her first full-length solo album, also titled Information, which reached stores in January 2016.
