The indie pop creations of It's a Musical, marked by their lively and intelligent quality and echoing the approach of Ella Blixt's prior endeavors such as Bobby Baby and Bobby & Blumm, draw inspiration from groups including Hello Seahorse!, Mates of State, and Architecture in Helsinki. In 2006, during her residence in Malmö, Sweden, where she was developing material under the Bobby Baby moniker, Ella Blixt encountered Robert Kretzschmar, also known for his work with Lady Boy, who later formed the duo's other component. Following Blixt's relocation to Berlin, Germany, the pair initiated work on the band's first full-length record in 2008. Morr Music put out this effort, titled The Music Makes Me Sick, toward the end of that year. Achieving notable success in Japan, the recording prompted the pair to perform across that country along with various European locations in the subsequent period. Afterward, Blixt and Kretzschmar pursued individual paths, as Blixt contributed to the Popkollo and Ruby Tuesday girls rock camps while Kretzschmar participated in the live ensemble of Masha Qrella, another artist on the Morr roster. The two reunited in 2010 to commence tracking material for the follow-up release. Early in 2012, Morr issued their sophomore album, For Years and Years.
