Biography
Jahdan Blakkamoore first reached dubstep listeners through his 2009 album Buzzrock Warrior, yet his recording history stretches to the late 1990s, when he performed simply as Jahdan and served as a revolutionary soldier within the Boot Camp Clik. Born in Guyana and raised in Brooklyn, he connected with the respected Smif-N-Wessun via that collective and supplied reggae-tinged vocals that anchored their single “Sound Bwoy Bureill.” Additional appearances alongside DJ Premier, Dead Prez, and Branford Marsalis followed, even as he maintained his own group, the futuristic reggae outfit Noble Society. In 2009 he reached a fresh listenership by contributing to Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do, the opening release from Diplo and Switch’s dancehall endeavor Major Lazer. That year also brought Buzzrock Warrior, an album shaped by production from DJ Rupture and the Dutty Artz collective. A deeper roots-reggae orientation defined the 2010 follow-up Babylon Nightmare, while in 2013 he supplied vocals and co-writing on the Grammy-nominated reggae set Reincarnated by Snoop Dogg. The 2014 single “For the Children,” recorded with Kabaka Pyramid, served as an early indicator of the 2015 album Order of Distinction.
