Biography
Producer and DJ Jody Wisternoff, one half of the long-running Bristol house and trance outfit Way Out West, has sustained a parallel solo path that encompasses both remixes for other acts and his own output of nostalgic electro alongside progressive house. He first stepped into the spotlight in 1986, reaching the finals of the DMC World DJ Championship at just thirteen years old, then teamed up two years afterward with his brother Sam inside the hip-hop crew True Funk Posse. Throughout the nineties he stood at the center of Britain’s rave movement through simultaneous involvement in Way Out West alongside Nick Warren and in Sub Love with DJ Die, before becoming a sought-after remixer during the following decade for projects by Leama & Moor, IKON, Coalesced, and Astral Tiger. Electro-tinged and steeped in eighties influences, his early solo singles appeared on In Charge with 2006’s “Nostalgia” and on Dirty Soul with 2007’s “Starstrings” plus 2009’s “Welcome to Your Life.” Returning to progressive house, he issued the 2012 album Trails We Blaze through Anjunabeats, later placing additional solo tracks on the AnjunaDeep imprint such as 2013’s “We Are Heroes” and 2014’s “Paramour.” Together with label manager James Grant he has also helmed multiple editions of the imprint’s self-titled compilation series. Following a period of sporadic single releases, Wisternoff resumed full-scale production in 2020 for his third studio album, Nightwhisper, which arrived that May after the先行 singles “Blue Space” and “Emochine” and showcased a meticulously crafted set of trance-infused progressive house.
