Born in Stockholm in 1985, tech-house producer John Dahlbäck relocated with his family while still a child to a modest village beyond the capital. There he absorbed musical skills from his parents and relatives, every one of them a working musician. His older cousin Jesper, already an established producer and DJ, introduced him to electronic production, resulting in a debut 12" that appeared on the revered Chicago house imprint Deep4Life in 2002 when Dahlbäck was just seventeen. Dozens of subsequent tracks and remixes surfaced on respected labels, among them Germany’s Kompakt, where he recorded as Hug; the sheer volume of his work soon surpassed even Jesper’s. In 2005 he issued his first album, Man from the Fall, via Systematic Records, with the follow-up Shades of a Shadow arriving on Little Angel Records mere weeks afterward. Dahlbäck also directs the German dirty-house-and-techno label Pickadoll Records, and he has an album titled At the Gunshow scheduled for autumn 2006.
