Biography
London's John Glacier crafts dreamy experimental hip-hop through stream-of-consciousness lyrics delivered in an icy, deadpan tone. Years of guest spots and shorter releases gave way to her full-length debut, the 2021 album Shiloh: Lost for Words, by the Hackney native. A 2023 collaboration with Surf Gang came before her Like a Ribbon EP, which arrived in 2024.
East Londoner John Glacier, born to Jamaican parents, started composing poems in childhood. Diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome—a chronic condition impacting bodily functions and movement—she faced employment barriers and instead supported children with physical and learning disabilities, started an organic haircare line, and created music at home. After uploading songs and sketches online, her work reached producer Vegyn, an acquaintance from prior parties, sparking their partnership. Glacier further guested on releases by Dreamcastmoe, Dean Blunt's Babyfather project, Jadasea, and additional artists. Vegyn's PLZ Make It Ruins issued the concise, mixtape-like Shiloh: Lost for Words in 2021, featuring production from Vegyn alongside Holly, Psychedelic Ensemble, and Tn_490. Positive coverage followed, helping Glacier adjust to live performances and public appearances. She dropped the collaborative EP JGSG with Surf Gang in 2023. Young released her Like a Ribbon EP in 2024, which included Eartheater on the single "Money Shows." Glacier also featured on the optimistic single "A Dream Goes on Forever" from Vegyn's album The Road to Hell Is Paved with Good Intentions.
