Biography
José Manuel Soto entered the world in 1961 as a member of a prominent Seville family. During his early twenties he composed material for established choral ensembles while also playing in informal groups alongside his peers. A firm commitment to a singer-songwriter path took shape by 1983, resulting three years later in the release of his first album, Desde Mi Orilla, through a modest regional imprint. CBS extended a contract in 1988 after identifying strong crossover prospects in his songs, which fused conventional romantic material with rumba elements. Across the years that followed he issued multiple major successes, each customarily titled after its standout track—Por Ella (1988), Como una Luz (1989), and Déjate Querer (1992) among them. Although broad commercial visibility declined through the latter half of the 1990s, he retained strong affection as a performer across Andalucia.
