Juan Gotti, born Juan Ramos, Jr., works as a Latin-American MC whose sound fuses hardcore rap with norteño and ranchero traditions. He alternates between English and Spanish while delivering often brash rhymes that recount street-life struggles, yet he shapes his overall output to convey optimism and personal empowerment.

A lifelong resident of Texas, he spent his formative years on Houston’s south side, where cars, tattoos, and music captured his attention. After completing a five-year prison term in the 1990s, he resolved to redirect his path. His entry into rap came through an association with South Park Mexican, the founder of Dope House Records. Beginning in 1998, Gotti appeared at local concerts and low-rider gatherings throughout Houston, leading to the 2002 release of his debut album, No Sett Trippin, on Dope House. That project sold roughly 50,000 copies in its regional market and later received a Latin Grammy nomination.

Its performance secured a national distribution agreement between Dope House and Warner Music Latina, allowing Gotti’s 2005 follow-up, John Ghetto, to register on Billboard’s Latin and rap album charts. A “chopped & screwed” version of the album was also issued, drawing from the style of Southern rap pioneer DJ Screw. Additional underground mixtapes surfaced before his third album, Raza Ville, arrived in 2007.

After departing Dope House, Gotti issued Texas Es Mexico and The Chronicles of Juan Ramos in 2008, then stepped away briefly before returning with four albums in 2011, one of which paired him with Carolyn Rodriguez. Subsequent projects have appeared on Atraco, Criminal Mind Records, and Ice House Records, while guest spots have included recordings by Point Blank and Low G.
