Biography
Jordan Melchiorre on drums and his brother Luke on bass join Ian Fosbery handling guitar and keyboards plus Benjamin Spurr on vocals and guitar to produce the Coast’s hypnotic melodies. Briefly operating as the July 26th Movement, the group put out the Take a Walk Outside EP in 2004 before the Toronto-based indie rock outfit reconfigured itself as the Coast in 2005, taking its name from a track on Paul Simon’s The Rhythm of the Saints. Within months the quartet had captivated club crowds throughout Toronto’s suburbs by layering original dynamic pop songs over textures recalling the Verve, U2, New Order, and the Smiths. Appearances alongside Elbow, the French Kicks, Tokyo Police Club, Islands, and the Duke Spirit led to the November 2006 arrival of the band’s self-titled debut EP, with a full-length album then slated for mid-2007.
