Formed in 2014, the Lubbock-based hardcore outfit Judiciary fused crossover, thrash, and metallic hardcore into an aggressive sonic and lyrical style from the outset. The five-piece lineup of Jake Collinson, Israel Garza, Kyle Calfin, Austin Scott-Looney, and Jerel Ramirez delivered its first recording, the EP The Axis of Equality, in 2016. A subsequent split release alongside the Canadian hardcore band Mortality Rate paved the way for Judiciary’s debut album. Closed Casket Activities issued that full-length, the hard-edged Surface Noise, in 2019; guest vocalists on the record included Brody King of God’s Hate, Bryan Garris of Knocked Loose, and Jess Nyx of Mortality Rate. Teaming again with Power Trip producer Arthur Rizk, the group sharpened its punk-metal approach on the 2023 release Flesh + Blood, a record steeped in thrash intensity.
