Julian Perretta surfaced on the London music scene in the mid-2000s with soulful electronic pop that carried melodic echoes of the 1970s, prompting early comparisons to Mika. His first full-length project, Stitch Me Up, appeared in 2010, while the more collaborative and dance-oriented Karma followed in 2016.

Born in London in 1989, Perretta began learning Beatles songs on guitar with his father at age eight before moving on to piano. After a brief period studying Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, he joined Mark Ronson’s European tour to perform the producer’s version of the Smiths’ “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.” The next year he opened for Beyoncé and Girls Aloud on their arena dates, received support on Perez Hilton’s influential blog, and signed with Universal Music.

Recorded with former Jamiroquai members Matt Johnson and Rob Harris, the 2010 album Stitch Me Up reached number 30 in France, where Perretta now lives. In 2014 he teamed with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike on the viral single “Body Talk,” then reunited with the duo a year later to add Fedde Le Grand on “Tales of Tomorrow.” After moving to Warner, he released his sophomore album Karma in 2016; it featured the French Top Five single “Miracle” and peaked at number 25 on the album chart. He issued the single “Private Dancer,” a collaboration with Feder, in 2017 and reached the French Top 20 with “On the Line” in 2018.
