Biography
Los Angeles-based project Kan Wakan crafts moody, ornate rock and pop shaped by orchestral textures. Launched in 2012 initially as an instrumental endeavor by Bulgarian-born composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Gueorgui I. Linev, the group also spotlighted lead vocalist Kristianne Bautista from the outset. The project issued its first EP in 2013, jointly shaped by Linev, guitarist Peter Potyondy, and producer/engineer Darrell Thorp. Receiving rotation on Los Angeles’ KCRW, the recording incorporated string arrangements performed by the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Stefan Linev, the conductor of the Bulgarian Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and uncle of Gueorgui I. Linev. Kan Wakan followed with its first full-length album, Moving On, two years later.
