Kevin Drew co-founded the experimental indie pop ensemble Broken Social Scene and belonged to its releasing label, Arts & Crafts. Within that expansive collective he collaborated with more than ten musicians whose work helped launch the chamber pop movement. Raised in Toronto, he received early creative training at the Etobicoke School of the Arts alongside future Broken Social Scene members Emily Haines and Amy Millan. After abandoning acting for music, Drew joined Charles Spearin on the recording project K.C. Accidental and issued two albums. The partnership gradually expanded into the larger Broken Social Scene. In 2007 he delivered his first solo album, Spirit If..., intended as the opening entry in a series of individual releases by members of the supergroup. Seven years passed before his next solo record appeared, following Broken Social Scene’s commercial peak and its 2011 hiatus. While preparing that follow-up, Drew began collaborating with Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Kim of the classic pop group the Archies; the partnership restored his creative momentum and prompted him to complete the album Darlings, released in March 2014.
