New Swears

Originating from Ottawa, the Canadian garage punk outfit New Swears arrived in 2012 with a melodic yet freewheeling approach and a pronounced lo-fi aesthetic. Their 2013 debut album Funny Isn't Real saw the lineup of Beej Eh, Sammy J. Scorpion, Nick Nofun, and Scru Bar carve out a place in Ontario's D.I.Y. underground, with the record appearing in assorted formats on Bruised Tongue Records, Dirt Cult, and Bachelor. The sophomore album Junkfood Forever, Bedtime Whatever surfaced the next year, again through Dirt Cult and Bachelor, prompting the band to sign with the respected Toronto indie Dine Alone Records. The 2016 7" single "Brand New Spot" b/w "Sugar Heavy Metal" displayed a modest lift in production values that foreshadowed their more polished third LP, And the Magic of Horses, issued in June 2017.
