Biography
Indie quartet Sorority Noise originated in 2013 when singer/guitarist Cameron Boucher, already the frontman of New Hampshire-based screamo outfit Old Gray, sought an outlet for different material. He recruited Old Gray drummer Charlie Singer, Prawn bassist Ryan McKenna, and guitarist Adam Ackerman to launch the project in Hartford, Connecticut. Following a few initial offerings—a cassette EP and a digital single—the group issued its first full-length, Forgettable, in early 2014. Blending elements of emo and pop-punk into melodic indie rock, the quartet drew notice from East Coast indie label Top Shelf Records. Their June 2015 sophomore effort, Joy Departed, marked the band’s debut on that imprint and adopted a broader, more reflective stance before the members embarked on a national tour alongside Motion City Soundtrack. In 2016 Sorority Noise issued the EP It Kindly Stopped for Me and saw Broken World Media re-release Forgettable, paving the way for the deeply introspective third album You’re Not as _____ as You Think on Triple Crown Records in early 2017. One year later an all-acoustic reinterpretation titled YNAAYT appeared, underscoring the group’s growing introspective direction.
