Biography
Canada's Seaway built an early following in the 2010s through their high-energy punk-pop approach, first drawing notice via appearances on Warped Tour and Riot Festival. Blending hardcore-punk intensity with pop hooks, the group achieved chart traction when 2015's Colour Blind entered the Top 30 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and reached number three on the Heatseekers chart. Over time the band refined and broadened its sonic palette, as heard on 2017's Vacation and 2020's Big Vibe.
The quintet formed in Oakville, Ontario in 2011, originally featuring vocalist Ryan Locke, vocalist/guitarist Patrick Carleton, guitarist Andrew Eichinger, bassist Adam Shoji, and drummer Ken Taylor. After issuing several EPs, they delivered their debut full-length album, 2013's Hoser, which led to support dates with Major League, Driver Friendly, and other acts.
In summer 2014 Seaway signed with Pure Noise Records and released a fourth EP. The following year included a tour with Bayside plus festival slots at the U.K.'s Slam Dunk Festival and Warped Tour. October 2015 brought their second album, Colour Blind, containing the singles "Freak" and "Best Mistake"; it was warmly received and peaked at number three on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. The band subsequently toured with the Wonder Years, Knuckle Puck, and additional artists.
Seaway issued their third studio album, Vacation, in 2017 under the guidance of producer Mike Green (All Time Low, 5 Seconds of Summer, Semi-Precious Weapons), highlighted by the lead single "Apartment." That same year the group contributed a cover of the Chainsmokers and Halsey hit "Closer" to Punk Goes Pop, Vol. 7. Fresh Produce, a set of B-sides and re-recorded fan favorites, arrived in 2019 shortly before singer Carleton exited. October 2020 saw the release of the power pop-infused Big Vibe, with Locke stepping forward as sole lead vocalist.
