Originating from Newcastle, Australia, Trophy Eyes fused melodically charged punk-pop with muscular crossover and hardcore textures, which propelled the group to domestic stardom while building devoted followings across the United States and United Kingdom. Their early material centered on fractured guitar textures and John Floreani’s intense vocal delivery, as heard on the 2014 debut Mend, Move On. Subsequent releases revealed increasing poise in performance; both The American Dream in 2018 and Suicide and Sunshine in 2023 retained strong emotional weight while shifting toward a less frantic overall force.

The band coalesced in 2013 around vocalist John Floreani, guitarists Kevin Cross and Andrew Hallett, bassist and backing vocalist Jeremy Winchester, and drummer Callum Cramp. A two-track demo containing “Chacho” and “Personal Taste” appeared in April 2013, followed just over a year later by the five-song EP Everything Goes Away. The members then headed to Thailand to record their first album with producer Shane Edwards; Hopeless Records issued the resulting Mend, Move On in November 2014, preserving the group’s abrasive edge and Floreani’s forceful bark. Extensive touring ensued, including a 2015 Vans Warped Tour appearance. Returning to Thailand with Edwards, Trophy Eyes completed Chemical Miracle, which Hopeless released in October 2016 and which displayed noticeable refinement without sacrificing punk drive. The band rejoined the Vans Warped Tour in 2017, yet that October saw Callum Cramp exit over internal disagreements. Blake Caruso assumed drumming duties, and the first single featuring him, “Hurt,” surfaced in November. Later that month the quartet embarked on its initial American headline run, supported by Free Throw, Grayscale, and Head North.

Further sessions with Edwards yielded the third album, The American Dream, released in August 2018; it marked the group’s most melodic statement to date, with Floreani smoothing some vocal roughness. In April 2019 the band opened Bring Me the Horizon’s Australian dates, after which Kevin Cross departed amicably that July; Trophy Eyes elected to continue as a quartet rather than recruit a permanent replacement. The standalone single “Figure Eight,” issued in January 2020, introduced Jeremy Winchester’s saxophone contribution. Between October 2021 and February 2022 the band issued three further singles—“27 Club,” “Bittersweet,” and “Nobody Said”—while preparing the next recording cycle. Andrew Hallett stepped away in February 2023 to prioritize family time, and guitarist Josh Campiao joined in time for the April 2023 US tour with Against the Current. The fourth album, Suicide and Sunshine, arrived in June 2023; co-produced by Shane Edwards and Fletcher Matthews, the fourteen-track set reflected a more seasoned and refined approach.
