Biography
Emerging from England’s coastal town of Blackpool in the North West, Boston Manor formed as a five-piece ensemble blending punk, post-hardcore, and grunge. Their sound centers on vocal harmonies that carry pop weight and emo shading alongside bright, overdriven guitar textures that echo blink-182 and Bowling for Soup. The group delivered its first full-length album, Be Nothing, in 2016 and later refined its mix of variety and intensity across Welcome to the Neighbourhood in 2018, Glue in 2020, and Datura in 2022.
Boston Manor came together in 2013 and built early notice through a self-sufficient method of recording, touring, and promotion that helped them establish footing on both regional and national stages. In the years that followed they issued several projects, beginning with the independent Here/Now EP in 2013 and a split 7" single shared that same year with Manchester-based hardcore act Throwing Stuff. Their next EP, Driftwood, appeared on Failure by Design Records in 2014. In 2015 the band signed to the California-based punk imprint Pure Noise Records and put out the Saudade EP before turning attention to its debut album. Be Nothing reached listeners via Pure Noise in fall 2016. After the standalone single “Drowned in Gold” in 2017, the group returned in 2018 with its second album, Welcome to the Neighbourhood, which marked its first appearance on the U.K. albums chart. Two years afterward came the third album, the alt-rock-leaning Glue. Ahead of the 2021 EP Desperate Times, Desperate Pleasures, Boston Manor moved to SharpTone, then released its fourth album, Datura, in 2022. That assured, inward-looking collection opens a planned two-part conceptual series.
