With Confidence originated in 2012 when several Australian high school friends launched a pop-punk group styled after blink-182, All Time Low, and Yellowcard. The band explored themes of mental health, relationships, and loss through infectious choruses and driving riffs, first attracting notice in 2016 with their Hopeless Records debut album Better Weather and later sustaining momentum in Australia and overseas via the follow-up releases Love and Loathing (2018) and With Confidence (2021).

Vocalist and bassist Jayden Seeley leads the outfit, whose founding roster also featured drummer Joshua Brozzesi and guitarist Sam Haynes. Shortly after forming, the three added guitarist Inigo Del Carmen and tracked their first song, “Stand Again,” in 2013; the debut EP Youth appeared before the year ended. Haynes exited in early 2014, after which touring guitarist Luke Rockets stepped in. The resulting quartet cut the follow-up EP Distance alongside producers Stevie Knight and Dave Petrovic (Hands Like Houses, Tonight Alive, Northlane) and released it in early 2015. One year later the group signed with Hopeless Records, revealed plans for a full-length album, and issued the advance singles “Voldemort,” “We’ll Be Okay,” and “Keeper.” Better Weather arrived in June 2016, reaching number 22 on the ARIA Charts. Luke Rockets departed in November 2017 just before the July 2018 release of the band’s second album, Love and Loathing, which became their first entry on the Billboard 200. Longtime touring guitarist Scott McLaughlin was soon elevated to permanent member and made his recorded debut on the self-titled third album that surfaced in 2021.
