Kidtonik emerged in 2008 as a tween pop act from France that quickly amassed multiple Top Ten singles after entering the recording studio for the first time. The lineup featured French tweens Morgane Goffard, Alexis Durand, Joanna Miles, Oihana Lob, Sarah Michelle, and Robin Livin, the only participant from Belgium, all chosen as winners from the Canal J children’s talent contest Iapiap aimed at viewers aged seven to fourteen. Their initial single, the electro-fashioned and heavily produced pop track Aller Plus Loin, reached the Top Five that same year and drew listeners across a wide audience. Issued a few months afterward on the Heben Music imprint, the accompanying full-length Aller Plus Loin (2008) remained on the charts for eleven weeks yet peaked only at number fifty, though it generated further Top Ten singles such as Left and Right and Jusqu’au Bout. In 2009 the then-sixteen-year-old Sarah Michelle was selected for individual success and released her own well-received debut Vivre in a comparable vein. She rejoined the group the next year for Kidtonik’s chart-entering sophomore effort No Limit, after which the ensemble dissolved while Sarah Michelle resumed her solo path with the more mature follow-up Notre Amitié. Morgane Goffard and Joanna Miles each pursued independent releases, yet neither achieved comparable results.
