Biography
Knox Brown, a sought-after producer and composer born in Jamaica and now based in England, has worked alongside talents including Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Emeli Sandé, and additional acts. Around 2014 he first drew notice by crafting beats for Wretch 32 and Jacob Banks. His debut solo EP, Searching, arrived in 2016 and highlighted his relaxed, atmospheric approach.
Kingston, Jamaica, marks his birthplace, while Portmore served as the town where he spent his childhood. Because the country offered no required music instruction, Brown’s earliest encounters with sound occurred through toy pianos and xylophones at home. His parents further supported his development by having him stage small performances of recited poems at gatherings in their residence. At roughly age 12 he relocated to Birmingham, England, alongside his family. There, enrollment in school music classes deepened his engagement with the art form. In ninth grade his mother presented him with a Casio keyboard loaded with preset pieces by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and similar composers; he learned them by ear, driven by a wish to impress classmates. Around the same period he grew captivated by rapping and beat-making, progressing swiftly from the Playstation title Music 2000 to hands-on work with programming and recording tools inside the school studio.
While attending university he kept advancing musically and soon secured initial chances to create tracks for Wretch 32 and Jacob Banks. Those recordings reached Warner/Chappell Music president Jon Platt, who arranged for Brown to travel to Los Angeles. He has since divided his schedule between England and the United States, writing and producing with Mary J. Blige, Beyoncé, Jess Glynne, Emeli Sandé, Paloma Faith, and further artists. Searching, released in 2016, contained the track “Harry’s Code” and featured appearances from Kojey Radical, Anderson .Paak, and BJ the Chicago Kid.
