London-based neo-soul singer and songwriter Pip Millett crafts smooth, unhurried R&B marked by confessional undertones and a bittersweet tone. Her introduction came in 2018 via the single “Make Me Cry,” a sharply worded reflection on personal struggles with anxiety. Subsequent output continued to probe both inner conflicts and relational dynamics, moving from the Lost in June EP in 2020—an examination of how family environments influence personality—to her broader debut full-length, the Sony-distributed When Everything Is Better, I'll Let You Know, issued in 2022.

At age four Millett relocated with her family to Marple, a leafy district within Stockport Borough south of Greater Manchester. Her mother, who grew up on Merseyside, filled the home with the sounds of Joni Mitchell and John Martyn, while her father brought Bobby Womack’s recordings into the mix. Early creative outlets centered on acoustic guitar and choral singing, yet by fourteen she had shifted focus to mastering first the bass and then the electric guitar. Although she initially contemplated a path in fashion, university life in London soon redirected her energies squarely toward music. A student collaboration caught the ear of Brixton producer and DJ Joe Hertz, resulting in her vocals on “Goodbye Kisses,” a track from his 2017 album Night/Daze.

She subsequently joined the roster of the independent label and management firm + FOURS, which released her first solo single, “Make Me Cry,” in May 2018. A Colors Studio rendition recorded in early 2019 generated nearly three million video views within a year. The track’s reach astonished Millett, given that it stemmed from her initial session in a professional studio. She quickly issued the brighter, lighter “Love the Things You Do,” then joined Dutch producer Feiertag later that year for the similarly upbeat “Feathers.” Managing academic demands alongside recording proved challenging, yet she maintained a steady flow of singles through 2019, among them a Warner-distributed version of “Try a Little Tenderness,” the composition Otis Redding claimed as his own.

Following the completion of her degree that June, Millett unveiled her debut EP, Do Well. The four tracks were produced by Josh Crocker, previously known for work with fellow rising R&B artist Mabel. The project emboldened her to stage complete concerts, confident that her catalog had expanded sufficiently. That September she played two sold-out headline dates, one in London and one in Manchester. Three advance singles, including the solitary, reflective “Deeper Dark,” preceded the April 2020 arrival of her second EP, Lost in June. She then aligned with the Sony-affiliated Dream Life imprint, which put out her first major-label EP, Motion Sick, in August 2021; the set included the Getts collaboration “Running.” While that concise collection was shaped mainly with Crocker, her first album drew on a wider circle of contributors. Lead single “Ride with Me,” an atmospheric slow jam crafted with Charlie J. Perry, signaled the October 2022 release of When Everything Is Better, I'll Let You Know, an album rich in layered, evocative material shaped alongside Owen Cutts, Fred Cox, Eg White, and Crocker.
