Biography
Flo Morrissey, a neo-folk singer of exceptional early promise, crafts music that summons both the dreamy Laurel Canyon atmosphere of the 1960s and the freak-folk resurgence of the 2000s, the very sound she first absorbed while growing up in London. Her household was steeped in music, particularly through her father’s devotion to Devendra Banhart, and she quickly found herself drawn to it. At age 14 she started composing her own material, posting the results on MySpace in the years that followed, then abandoned formal education at 17 to devote herself entirely to a musical career. Glassnote Records signed her after founder Daniel Glass encountered one of her YouTube clips and recognized her promise; she tracked her debut album, Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful, in Los Angeles alongside producer Noah Georgeson, who had earlier worked with Banhart. The record appeared on Glassnote in the summer of 2015. Two years later Morrissey joined Matthew E. White to create Gentlewoman, Ruby Man, an album consisting entirely of cover versions.
