Biography
A standout figure in the country rap lane, Lenny Cooper built his path by spinning verses around mud bogging, the pastime he holds dearest. Equal parts brash and drawling, his delivery rides simple, bass-heavy productions whether he is celebrating trucks and dirt tracks or turning his attention to romance, liquor, nightlife, and carefree moments. His 2012 debut, Diesel Fuel, established his presence, while Dirtified in 2016 revealed an artist refining his approach without abandoning those core subjects.
Raised in the countryside of North Carolina, Cooper developed an early fondness for mud bogging alongside his circle of friends. Music also figured prominently: he absorbed traditional country sounds before rap caught his ear at age nine. Songwriting began at eleven, and by fifteen he had grasped the essentials of recording. At seventeen, prompted by those same friends, he penned “Mud Digger,” a track devoted to his chief obsession. He captured it at home, circulated the file among acquaintances, uploaded it to YouTube, and then resumed his routine. Views accumulated steadily until the clip drew the attention of Colt Ford, who had been mentioned in the post. Ford brought Cooper aboard Average Joes, and the label issued Diesel Fuel in 2012, presenting fresh versions of “Mud Digger” alongside other early material. The follow-up, Mud Dynasty, arrived in 2013 and peaked at number 34 on the Country Albums chart and number 17 on the Rap Albums chart.
Success continued with the 2014 release The Grind, which found Cooper working alongside Colt Ford, Bubba Sparxxx, and Bucky Covington; the project climbed to number 17 on Billboard’s country tally and number 13 on the rap tally. Late in 2016 he delivered his fourth album, Dirtified, led by the single “Keep It So Country” featuring Georgia country rapper Young Gunner. Following a four-year hiatus, he resurfaced in 2020 with Still the King, an effort that included contributions from Big Smo, J Rosevelt, and Anthony BeastMode.
