Biography
Jawga Boyz surfaced amid the hick-hop surge that dominated charts in 2013 and 2014, yet the Athens, Georgia outfit chose the term “kuntry” to brand their fusion of rap and country sounds and stand apart from similar acts. The ensemble first assembled in 2003 and cycled through many lineups until Derek Thrasher, Justin Young, A.J. McIntyre, Mark Bryant, Matt “Manchild” Marshall, and Cody “Stixxx” Hutchings formed the stable roster. Clips of “Rollin Like a Redneck” and “Ridin High” posted on video platforms accumulated more than ten million views, prompting the 2011 release of the debut album Kuntry that housed both tracks. Hick Hop 101 arrived the next year and included “Redneck Dirt Road Riders,” “Down in a Holler,” and “Waylon’s Gone,” after which the group joined country-with-a-C figure Joe Diffie on the 2013 single “Girl Ridin’ Shotgun.” Reloaded 1 reached stores late that same year and marked their initial Billboard chart entry. Shortly afterward, the Dez collaboration Tailgate Music entered the Billboard 200 while also registering on the country, rap, and Heatseekers tallies. Mud Boggin Crew surfaced in 2016 and showcased guest spots from Charlie Farley, Porch Matthews, Tennessee Shine, Boondock Kingz, and additional artists. Early 2018 brought Reloaded 2, the follow-up to the 2013 project, which featured Hard Target alongside Twang & Round.
