Biography
Cleveland Laing came into the world in Spanish Town, Jamaica, later establishing himself as the reggae performer Lieutenant Stitchie. He had worked as a teacher in that same community before adopting the Stitchie name through a 1986 collaboration with King Jammy on the single "Wear Your Size." The following year brought his first solo album, Ambition, after which he secured an American contract with Atlantic that yielded the early-nineties releases Wild Jamaican Romances in 1990 and Rude Boy in 1993. Additional vocal contributions followed for producers including Bobby Digital, Barry O'Hare, and John John, until his turn toward faith led him to record gospel-reggae projects such as the 2000 album Real Power. That record became the high point of his career, registering on U.S. gospel and urban charts while reaching number three on the album chart in Colombia.
