Emerging from Laguna Niguel, California, Limbeck coalesced at the millennium’s outset around buoyant power pop melodies and a commitment to crisp hooks delivered through vigorous live sets. The band’s first release arrived via Utility Records as the 2000 split EP Connection, which paired them with the California pop-punk outfit Home Grown. During that period the quartet—singer and guitarist Robb MacLean, guitarist and singer Patrick Carrie, bassist Justin Entsminger, and drummer Matt Stephens—appeared in an Apple iMac advertisement performing the track “Stop Internet Romance” under the assumed name the Garage Monkeys. Their debut full-length, This Chapter Is Called Titles, followed in 2001. Late in 2002 Limbeck joined the Doghouse Records roster; the subsequent label debut Hi, Everything’s Great, issued in early 2003, reflected a shift away from emo toward alternative-country textures. Throughout the next twelve months the group sustained near-constant national touring, frequently sharing bills with Rocky Votolato, the Early November, and Sleep Station. Issued in August 2005, Let Me Come Home deepened those roots, drawing explicitly from Wilco, Old 97’s, and the Replacements. That year Stephens departed, yielding his drum chair in September to Milwaukee native Jon Phillip, previously of the Benjamins and the Obsoletes. Additional road work ensued until the band reconvened during summer 2006 at a Kansas studio with longtime collaborator Ed Rose of the Get Up Kids; the resulting self-titled album appeared in April 2007.
