In 2012 the Brooklyn indie pop trio Little Daylight—Nikki Taylor, Matt Lewkowicz, and Eric Zeiler—initiated their partnership by remixing songs from Passion Pit, the Neighbourhood, and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. Viewing the effort as little more than a studio project at the outset, the three nevertheless drew favorable notice for those early versions and soon shifted to original material with the release of their first single, “Overdose,” in early 2013. Its shimmering, warm synth pop connected immediately, sending the track to number one on the influential site Hype Machine. Buoyed by that response, the members turned their attention to performing live; an appearance at SXSW helped secure a contract with Capitol Records. Their debut EP, Tunnel Vision, followed in August 2013, after which they returned at once to their shared Brooklyn studio to record and produce the full-length Hello Memory, issued one year later.
