Biography
Loren Gray built a substantial online following across several platforms, amassing roughly three million subscribers before entering the music industry in 2018. That year she issued a trio of singles—“My Story,” then “Kick You Out,” and finally “Queen”—each highlighting her comfort with bright pop hooks, youthful turmoil, and exuberant adolescence, all polished by a sleek electronic sheen. Later releases gradually wove in R&B textures and synth-pop flourishes, setting the stage for her first full-length project, Guilty, which arrived in 2023.
Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, she created a YouTube account on May 5, 2012, under the name Loren Beech. During the ensuing four years she adopted the professional moniker Loren Gray, relocated to Los Angeles, and steadily expanded her audience on multiple networks, musical.ly among them. Supporters she called “angels” earned her a Teen Choice Awards nod for Choice Muser in 2016; she received the same recognition in 2018, the year her offline career gained momentum. She joined HRVY on the 2017 Spring DigiTour and later appeared in his 2018 clip “Personal.” By then she had signed with Virgin Records, which promptly issued “My Story,” followed before year’s end by “Kick You Out” and “Queen.” In 2019 she linked with Saweetie on the club-oriented “Can’t Do It” and put out the double-sided single “Options” b/w “Lie Like That.”
By 2020 her style had shifted toward more grown-up R&B inflections reminiscent of Ariana Grande, evident on “Cake.” Additional collaborations that year included “Love for the Summer” with Deacon and the electronic single “Nobody to Love” alongside TELYKast. In 2021 she unveiled the buoyant synth-pop cut “Piece of Work,” her first release as an independent artist after parting ways with Virgin. The 2022 track “Guilty” marked the initial offering in a series of three advance singles that preceded the full album Guilty in 2023.
