In 1963 a collection of Chilean students launched a band under the name the Douglas. By 1967 the lineup—bassist and vocalist Luis Muñoz, also known as Lucho Muñoz, guitarist Carlos Baeza, keyboardist Jorge Deij, drummer Roberto Zuñiga, saxophonist Nicolas Parra, and trumpeter Mario Darigo—had adopted the new moniker Los Galos. Their initial success arrived in 1970 with the romantic single “Como Deseo Ser Tu Amor,” which was soon joined by “Olvidarte Nunca,” “Un Minuto De Tu Amor,” and “Perdona Si Me Ves Llorar.” Muñoz departed in 1974, and the group dissolved the following year.

Deij and Zuñiga reconvened in 1997 alongside trumpeter Leo Nuñez, singer Carlos Peña, bassist Eladio Farias, saxophonist Manuel Antonio Matta, and guitarist Juan Ramón Suazo to record the album Declaraciones. The project was produced across Chile and the United States before appearing in May 1998.
