In October 1958 the South American ensemble los Guacamayos came together when brothers Alberto and Narciso Vidal recruited singer and guitarist José Mira. Performing as a folk trio, the group drew its principal inspiration from bolero, the sentimental Latin genre. A Dutch entrepreneur’s contract soon launched them on nearly twenty years of international touring. Their first long-player appeared in 1967 under the band’s own name, and later that same year they issued Trio Los Guacamayos, cut in Holland. Subsequent sessions paired them with Núria Feliu for a Catalan-language release. Once José Mira departed, los Guacamayos continued as a duo.
