Five Mexican musicians who had relocated to the United States launched the ensemble originally billed as los Halcones de Michuacan. Prior to issuing their first album in 1985 the collective assumed the revised title Los Razos de Sacramento y Reynaldo. Vocalist Sacramento Ramírez, born in La Piedad, Michuacán and an arrival in North America since 1980, guided the lineup. Accordionist Reynaldo Sanabria entered in 1990, after which drummer Salvador Guillén, singer Marcos González, and bassist Baltazar Pineda completed the roster. The musicians earned widespread public backing, rising to prominence with provocative narcocorridos that Mexican authorities subsequently prohibited. The designation Los Razos de Sacramento honored Sara Razo, who facilitated their introduction to the regional Mexican circuit in the U.S. Across more than twenty releases the group secured repeated gold and platinum awards while their videos also registered on charts; the album Mis Numero 1...Pa La Raza appeared on the lower reaches of the Mexican Regional listings.
