El Poder del Norte came together in 1993 as a Mexican ensemble that adopted the moniker "El Auténtico y Unico." Their recording debut arrived with Mi Decisión and was succeeded by Como Llama, after which El Autentico y Unico earned the group its first gold certification. Specializing in corrido, norteño, and ranchera, the band established itself among the strongest commercial sellers by the late 1990s. The single "A Ella," drawn from the 2000 anthology 15 Exitos, logged 12 weeks on Latin Airplay. One year afterward, "Ni Que Valieras Tanto" extended its chart run to 17 weeks while reaching number 22. The 2002 release Imaginate Sin Ellos entered Top Latin Albums and held position for 20 weeks, driven principally by the title track and "Vestido Blanco." Those tracks and the album each posted repeated weeks on Heatseekers and Latin Airplay alike.

Across the following several years, El Poder del Norte continued to register chart entries through compilations, concert documents, and new studio projects. Both La Decada in 2004 and Ranchero in 2005 accumulated multiple weeks on Top Latin Albums, while singles attracted heavy rotation throughout Mexico and the United States and posted still stronger sales figures. Over the ensuing three years the group performed across Mexico, the United States, and South America and made repeated television appearances. Although most releases took the form of compilations, the live audio-video package 13 Años de Exitos en Vivo proved especially successful and led to the 2007 studio album Por Siempre. That set delivered three charting singles: "Que Me Parta un Rayo," "Hablemos," and "Ya Vez."

Marking the ensemble’s fifteenth anniversary, XV appeared with its charting single "Ultimas Noticias," sending the full-length to number 25 on Top Latin Albums. The group returned to the chart in 2012 with Que Diosito Te Perdone, which fared even better on download rankings. In 2016 the band observed its twenty-second year with XXII - Veintidos. Its second single, "Quizas," climbed high on Latin Airplay and Mexican Regional, while the album featured guest vocal appearances by Alicia Villarreal on "No Querías Lastimarme" and by Big Javy y los Tenampa on "Como Quieres Que Te Olvide."
