Biography
Leanne Greyerbiehl, performing under the name Lou Canon, works as a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter whose output falls within the alternative and indie pop realms. Her sound centers on dense layers of ethereal electronics paired with atmospheric arrangements. Toronto serves as her home base, where she became a fixture in the city’s emerging bedroom electronic community and drew strong reviews for her 2017 follow-up, Suspicious. Three years afterward she issued the expansive semi-concept album Audomatic Body, widely viewed as the high point of her recorded work to date.
Before committing to music full-time, Greyerbiehl taught elementary school while developing her skills in songwriting, composition, and production during off hours. Her brother-in-law, the indie folk musician Hayden, provided access to his personal studio; those sessions yielded her self-titled debut, which Hardwood Records—Hayden’s own imprint—released in 2011. She contributed guest vocals to his 2013 album Us Alone and joined him on the road for its promotional tour.
Paper Bag Records later became her label, issuing Suspicious in early 2017. Mark Lawson, whose credits include Arcade Fire and Basia Bulat, co-produced the set, which critics singled out for its restrained, downtempo bedroom electronica and polished, brooding atmosphere. The independent track “Uncover the Lover” surfaced in 2018, after which Canon began recording her next collection. Parts of the project were tracked with Lawson in Montreal, while other segments were captured independently at sites across Canada. Released in 2020 as Audomatic Body, the ten-song sequence explores the shifting dynamics of personal relationships, employing the structural device of a Greek Chorus to underscore its central themes.
