Whitehorse emerged when established Canadian singer/songwriters Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet combined forces. The pair sustained thriving individual careers both before and after marrying in 2006, yet by 2011 they opted to launch a shared project. Operating from Hamilton, Ontario, they placed their self-titled debut with Six Shooter Records that same year. Its combustible blend of Southern-tinged Americana and atmospheric rock established the foundation for the widely praised follow-up, The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss, issued in 2012 and later named a Polaris Prize finalist. Also in 2013, the duo issued the covers EP The Road to Massey Hall, marking their debut appearance at the historic Toronto hall. Demonstrating a distinctly Canadian impulse, they followed with Éphémère Sans Repère in 2014, an EP featuring French-language versions of selected originals. Teaming with producer Gus Van Go, McClelland and Doucet broadened their palette on the 2015 album Leave No Bridge Unburned, which earned Adult Alternative Album of the Year at the 2016 Juno Awards. That year the duo also unveiled the blues covers set The Northern South, Vol. 1. In early 2017 Whitehorse shifted course again, weaving hip-hop loops and electronic elements into the single “Boys Like You.”
