Biography
Aidan Knight, the Canadian singer and songwriter, produces music with a distinctly cathartic quality, channeling his experimental brand of indie folk into a vessel that holds personal struggles and challenges running through every record from Versicolour in 2010 to the self-titled Aidan Knight in 2020.
Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, he established himself as a fixture in the regional music community, performing with multiple groups before issuing his first solo release, the 2008 single “First Takes.” Over the following two years he assembled material for his debut album, Versicolour, while supporting live bills that featured Dan Mangan and Said the Whale. His second album, Small Reveal, arrived in late 2012, after which he undertook additional touring that took him across the United States and Europe with James Vincent Morrow and Justin Rutledge.
After signing with the U.K. label Full Time Hobby, he delivered his third album, Each Other, in 2016. A relocation to Berlin followed, yet he and his wife eventually resettled on Vancouver Island, where they built a home studio. With family responsibilities—most notably the birth of his son—taking priority, his songwriting began to reflect the fluctuations of everyday life, resulting in the late-2020 release of his fourth album, the self-titled Aidan Knight, again on Full Time Hobby and preceded by the single “Sixteen Stares.”
