Biography
Pop singer and songwriter Lucas DiPasquale achieved sudden online popularity during 2014 after releasing an acoustic mash-up drawn from dancehall sensation Popcaan’s material. The project sparked an uncommon Canadian and Caribbean partnership that secured him a contract with a major label and shaped the direction of his 2015 EP Post-Secondary. Following a period of inactivity he resurfaced in 2021, first linking with Toronto singer and rapper B.ROB on two tracks and then issuing the solo single “Begging for the Tide.”
Raised in Markham, Ontario, DiPasquale initially uploaded acoustic interpretations of songs by acts ranging from Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran to Young Jeezy. Although his polished delivery and relaxed approach generated steady streams, the decisive moment arrived when his 2014 Popcaan mash-up drew the Jamaican artist’s notice, thereby opening the door to a professional career. Popcaan subsequently invited him to appear onstage at Jamaica’s Dream Weekend festival, placing DiPasquale amid a rising wave of international dancehall support. EMI issued the 2015 EP Post-Secondary, which included contributions from Popcaan as well as fellow dancehall figures Agent Sasco and Konshens. After the label released one additional single, 2016’s “Pager,” DiPasquale remained largely absent from public view until his 2021 return. That year he joined Toronto artist B.ROB for a pair of polished R&B recordings and independently put out the solo track “Begging for the Tide,” which returned more directly to his acoustic-pop foundation.
