Biography
Lunar Vacation is a five-piece outfit whose guitar-driven rock tunes conceal deceptively catchy melodies, subtly intricate vocal harmonies, and unguardedly personal lyrics beneath layers of noise and gentle textural haze. As the group evolved, its approach shifted from the comparatively direct indie-pop style of the 2021 debut Inside Every Fig Is a Dead Wasp toward the broader guitar timbres and structural experiments that define the 2024 follow-up Everything Matters Everything's Fire.
The Atlanta, Georgia-based project originated in 2016 while founding members Maggie Geeslin and Gep Repasky were still attending high school. Even as teenagers, the musicians quickly drew national notice for their dreamy sound, one that echoes post-Alvvays sensibilities. Early singles and EPs, among them 2017’s Swell and 2018’s Artificial Flavors, documented the process of refining their style and confirming the roster. The completed lineup—Repasky, Geeslin, Matteo DeLurgio, Connor Dowd, and Ben Wulkan—recruited Grouplove’s Daniel Gleason to produce the first full-length record. Issued by Keeled Scales in October 2021, that album was Inside Every Fig Is a Dead Wasp. In the years that followed, the band maintained a steady touring schedule while releasing fresh material through demo compilations, standalone singles, and live sessions. The members eventually shared a house in Decatur, Georgia, where they developed ideas for the next album. Everything Matters Everything's Fire took shape via extended jamming, deliberate sonic risks, and a willingness to pursue unconventional directions; Keeled Scales is scheduled to release it in September 2024, accompanied by a slate of supporting tour dates.
