In the mid- to late '90s, Mac Mall joined forces with more prominent figures such as E-40 and 2Pac to establish the Cali Bay Area as a major center of rap activity. Working alongside key local talents including Ant Banks, Khayree, Michael Mosley, and Rick Rock, he played a central role in shaping the region's distinctive sound, most notably through his strongest release, Untouchable (1996), which included his widely recognized track "Get Right." Momentum faded soon afterward, however. Following a three-year hiatus, he reemerged in 1999, yet the effort drew minimal attention. By that point he had left his major label, and the Bay Area's earlier prominence had already faded. In light of his short-lived peak and abrupt drop-off, the stylistic shift he made in 2001 came as little shock, as Immaculate brought a striking spiritual dimension to his work.
