Paris gave Solange Moffi her start, and her parents attached the nickname Madame So while she was still young, prompted by her determined, curious, and forthright character. As she matured, powerful women in music such as Patti Smith, Courtney Love, and Liz Phair drew her in, while the Lemonheads, the Vaselines, and Ben Lee supplied further creative fuel. After settling in London in 2001 she channeled her efforts into music journalism, yet the growing impulse to produce her own songs could not be suppressed. Solo appearances began in early 2011, followed in late 2012 by the self-released debut The Sell-by Date EP. Expanded to a full band, numbers like “Camden Scene” and “Sell-by Date” yielded a sound that logically extended her earlier punk-colored acoustic sets and drew notice from blogs and radio outlets including Gary Crowley at the BBC.
