MAGIC!

Having built a reputation as a distinguished producer and songwriter under the name Nasri Atweh, Nasri stepped forward as lead singer of Magic!, whose sound blends pop, R&B, and reggae. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he achieved his initial breakthrough by partnering with Adam Messinger in the production and songwriting duo the Messengers, responsible for successful tracks by Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, and Pitbull, among additional artists. In 2012 Nasri sought to develop his own recordings and began shaping material alongside guitarist and songwriter Mark Pelli. Their opening collaboration, a seamless mix of reggae, pop, and R&B titled “Rude,” emerged so effortlessly that the pair chose the name Magic! for the project and completed the roster with bassist Ben Spivak and drummer Alex Tanas. Following a support slot on Matisyahu’s tour in fall 2013, the group secured a contract with Sony Music International, releasing “Rude” as its debut single; the track climbed to a worldwide Top Five position and held the summit in the United States for six weeks. In April 2014 Magic! supplied the new song “This Is Our Time (Agora e a Nossa Hora)” for the compilation One Love, One Rhythm: The 2014 FIFA World Cup Official Album. Their first complete release, Don’t Kill the Magic, appeared in July 2014 and peaked at number six on the Billboard 200. After joining Maroon 5 on the road in 2015, the band issued fresh material the next year. Featuring Sean Paul, the single “Lay You Down Easy” launched atop Billboard’s Reggae Digital Songs chart just prior to the arrival of Magic!’s sophomore album, Primary Colours, in July 2016. In 2017 they teamed with Matoma and DRAM on “Girl at Coachella,” followed by the standalone release “Kiss Me” in 2018.
