Biography
The six-piece San Francisco outfit Magic Bullets came together in 2004, bound by a common appreciation for post-punk and 1980s alt-rock acts such as Orange Juice, the Sound, the Feelies, and Talking Heads. Before entering the group, its members had devoted the bulk of their earlier efforts to punk ensembles of various kinds. Vocalist Philip Benson and guitarist plus primary songwriter Corey Cunningham first crossed paths in 2000 as fellow participants in the Cosmos. Several years afterward they added Colin Dobrin on drums, Matthew Kallman on keyboards, Nathan Sweatt on bass, and guitarist Ryan Lynch, another Cosmos alumnus. In its Magic Bullets incarnation the band shared bills with the Walkmen, Elf Power, Voxtrot, and Cold War Kids. Words on Music issued the album A Child But in Life Yet a Doctor in Love in May 2007.
