Biography
Comedian Mark Gross steps onstage wearing a button-up shirt paired with a tie, his hair cut short and his expression conveying a weary outlook. That visual presentation leaves crowds unprepared for the profanity-laced comedy that frequently matches his last name in aptness. After developing his skills in improvisation with the Amore Brothers and then working the stand-up circuit, he secured his initial major opportunity in 1996 by serving as opener for Howie Mandel across a nationwide tour. The following year brought a writing position on the nationally syndicated radio program The Bob & Tom Show, where he also made sporadic on-air appearances. His contributions to Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect marked his entry into television, while the 1997 release Sexual Odometer served as his first recorded project. A 2002-2003 run alongside Dave Chappelle elevated him to larger stages, yet the 2003-2004 tour with Rodney Carrington proved pivotal for his career. Carrington emerged as Gross’ strongest advocate, bringing him on as a writer once Carrington premiered his own 2004 series titled Rodney. Carrington further connected Gross with Capitol Nashville, which issued the comedian’s second album, Meet Mark Gross, in August of 2005.
