Biography
Although London was his birthplace, Marlon Roudette grew up primarily in the Eastern Caribbean, where reggae music pouring out of shops on every corner sparked his deep affection for the genre. At age 17 he moved back to London, where he soon crossed paths with Preetesh Hirji. Together they launched the duo Mattafix, blending the reggae, dancehall, and dub sounds from Roudette’s island upbringing with electronic loops and urban beats. Their signature track, “Big City Life,” reached number 15 on the U.K. chart while claiming the top spot in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and New Zealand. Mattafix issued two albums and were midway through sessions for a third when they disbanded in 2010. Roudette then secured a solo deal with Universal and immediately began recording his debut project. Released in July 2011, the single “New Age” became an international hit, and the album Matter Fixed appeared that autumn.
