Dancehall artist Masicka channels deep feeling into every track, whether reflecting on private hardships or marking triumphs through energetic party anthems. Blending foundational dancehall elements with updated trap beats, his first full studio effort, 438, entered the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at number two just seven days after its 2021 launch. Shortly afterward he joined Def Jam, the label that issued his next project, Generation of Kings, in December 2023.
Born Javaun Fearon in 1993, Masicka put out his earliest solo recordings at eighteen. From then on he maintained a steady output, collaborating with established figures in Jamaica’s music scene and drawing notice through tracks such as the 2015 single “Dem Ago Dead” and 2018’s “They Don't Know.” Over time his precise delivery and dynamic rhythms acquired greater polish and mainstream pop sensibility, moving beyond mixtape formats to the proper studio album 438, which featured contributions from dancehall greats Popcaan, Stefflon Don, Sean Paul, and Dexta Daps. Additional singles appeared in 2022, among them “Get Money” and “Like Gold,” leading to a Def Jam contract by the start of 2023. “Tyrant” introduced Generation of Kings, his sophomore album, which arrived that December.
