Biography
Born on 29 January 1971 in Kronberg im Taunus near Frankfurt, Germany, Seuffert absorbed classical music and jazz from an early age. His initial studies began with flute before shifting to clarinet under the tutelage of local jazzman Reimer von Essen. Johnny Dodds’s recordings and live encounters with Tom Baker and Dan Barrett guided his growth, enabling professional engagements by his mid-teens. Expanding to tenor saxophone, he performed with Claus Jacobi’s band. The year 1996 brought recording sessions alongside Keith Nichols and Bent Persson as well as membership in the Blue Rhythmakers.
Seuffert settled in the UK during the early 2000s, where he taught at Trinity College of Music. London engagements connected him with Nichols, Alan Barnes, Norman Field, Enrico Tomasso and further colleagues. Several of these musicians accompanied him on a trip to the USA, where Vince Giordano and drummer C.H. ‘Pam’ Pameijer joined the ensemble. In Germany during 2004 he undertook concerts and recording dates once more with Nichols. He serves as co-leader, together with Alyn Shipton, of the Buck Clayton Legacy Band. At the Ascona festival in 2006 he recorded with Rossano Sportiello and Harry Allen. Other collaborators have included Jon-Erik Kellso, Eddie Locke, Trevor Richards, Frank Robertscheuten, Randy Sandke and Warren Vaché. Seuffert became a member of the European Saxophone Quartet in 2007.
